After selling out two London runs, a run in Park City, Utah (where the trial took place) and its entire Edinburgh Fringe run, Gwyneth Goes Skiing skis into the The Pleasance for a limited two week run this Christmas (11-21 December).
Starring Linus Karp as Hollywood Superstar and Goop-founder Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Martin as Dr Terry Sanderson, Awkward Productions’ show about the Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial has gooped and gagged audiences since its viral announcement last year.
Bringing you onto the slopes of Deer Valley, Utah, and that infamous courtroom in Park City, Gwyneth Goes Skiing is a story of justice, betrayal and… optometry – where you as the audience gets to decide who’s guilty and who’s gooped.
Featuring original music by Leland (Troye Sivan, Cher), vocals by Cat Cohen (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner) and Darren Criss (Glee, The Assassination of Gianni Versace) – and a special video appearance from drag legend Trixie Mattel, this queer gwextravaganza is “unlike anything else you’ll see.” (Attitude – ★★★★★)
Karp and Martin from Awkward Productions comment: “To experience the amazing highs this show has given us as a small, queer theatre duo has been nothing short of a dream come true. To have performed for many of the people we portray in the show, to have Gwyneth Paltrow herself be asked about it and to have reached sold-out audiences and had unreal reactions have has left us truly gooped. It feels so right to bring this show full circle and take it back to the gwonderful Pleasance where it all started.”
Songwriter Leland comments: “Linus and Joseph are continuing to share the gospel of Goop and I’m so excited more people will get to see Gwyneth Goes Skiing. It’s an important retelling of an incredibly niche story none of us will ever go through, because we’re not Gwyneth Paltrow.”
The Christmas run at the Pleasance will conclude a UK & Ireland tour, consisting of Manchester, Brighton, Oxford, Birmingham, Newcastle, Bristol, Dublin and Belfast.
