Hackney Empire has revealed the first casting news for its 2025 pantomime, Cinderella, which will run from 22 November to 31 December, with a press night on Thursday 4 December.

This year’s festive production will be directed by Hackney Empire Patron Clive Rowe, promising a magical retelling of the classic rags-to-riches tale.

Cinderella follows the story of a young dreamer longing for love and adventure, held back by her wicked Ugly Sisters and evil Stepmother. When an invitation to the party of the year arrives, it could be her chance to escape.

Audiences can expect all the traditional pantomime ingredients: extravagant costumes, audience participation, and sensational song and dance numbers.

The Ugly Sisters will be played by Hackney favourites Kat B and George Heyworth.

Kat B is a beloved local legend and versatile entertainer. He has appeared in 20 Hackney Empire pantomimes and numerous other productions, including The Wiz and The Dragon Can’t Dance.

George Heyworth is known as one half of the cult musical duo Bourgeois & Maurice. He has performed internationally and previously starred in Hackney Empire’s Aladdin in 2023.

Further casting and creative team announcements are expected in early Autumn.

Jo Hemmant, Executive Director at Hackney Empire, said:
“We’re thrilled to announce the first cast members for this year’s pantomime Cinderella, which will be the final pantomime I’m producing as Executive Director at Hackney Empire. Having Hackney gold Kat B and George Heyworth on board as our Ugly Sisters, alongside our esteemed Patron and Director for this year Clive Rowe, means we’re guaranteed to bring you all another joyous pantomime in Hackney this festive season! Stay tuned for more announcements, coming in September.”
