The original production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is celebrating its 10th anniversary at London’s Palace Theatre today, 30 July 2026, marking a decade since the award-winning play first opened in the West End.
Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, the landmark production premiered in 2016 and has since become the longest-running play in modern West End history to be presented as a two-part theatrical experience.
Over the past 10 years, more than 2.5 million people have seen Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre, including more than 300,000 first-time theatregoers.
The production has featured 276 cast members throughout its run, with 45 actors making their professional stage debut. Across the two parts, the show has delivered 1,762 performances and more than 8,300 hours of performance time.
Reflecting on the milestone, writer Jack Thorne said: “Creating Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been a truly wonderful experience, and we are all delighted to be celebrating 10 years in the West End. From the very beginning, it has been a collective effort, shaped by the passion, creativity and dedication of every person involved in bringing our show to the stage. One of the things that makes theatre so special is the shared experience between the audience and performers who journey through the story together, and to have brought new audiences to the Palace Theatre to have their first theatregoing experience at our show is something we are all proud of.”

The show has gone on to become a global phenomenon, attracting more than 14 million audience members worldwide and earning 60 major honours, including a record-breaking nine Olivier Awards and six Tony Awards.
There are currently productions running in London, New York, Tokyo, the Netherlands and on a North American tour, with previous productions staged in Hamburg, Melbourne, San Francisco and Toronto.
The current West End cast includes David Ricardo-Pearce as Harry Potter, Claire Lams as Ginny Potter, Joshua Sullivan as Albus Potter, Thomas Aldridge as Ron Weasley, Naana Agyei-Ampadu as Hermione Granger, Tamia-Renée Alexandra as Rose Granger-Weasley, Oliver Boot as Draco Malfoy and Kai Spackman as Scorpius.
Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, the play continues its run in its original two-part format until 20 September 2026, before a reimagined one-part production begins performances on 9 October 2026.
