HOME Manchester has unveiled three major productions for Theatre 1 this autumn, bringing a blend of classic drama, bold literary adaptation and a landmark American play to the venue.
This September and November audiences can experience new stagings of Mrs Dalloway, Othello and August Wilson’s Fences as part of the venue’s latest season.
A powerful new production of Shakespeare’s Othello, directed by Anthony Almeida, arrives at HOME as a major co-production with Northern Stage, Royal & Derngate and Citizens Theatre. The production reimagines the tragedy for contemporary audiences, exploring jealousy, power and manipulation as fear and paranoia begin to unravel Othello and Desdemona’s marriage.
A striking new stage version of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway will also play at HOME as part of its UK tour following its world premiere at Storyhouse. Co-created by director Jen Heyes and Olivier Award winner Kit Green, who also performs, the production offers a bold and immersive reimagining of Woolf’s modernist masterpiece. Charting a single extraordinary day in Clarissa Dalloway’s life, the piece examines memory, identity and connection in a vivid and contemporary theatrical form.
Autumn will also see a major revival of August Wilson’s Fences, directed by Daniel Bailey and presented by Headlong, Leeds Playhouse, Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and HOME Manchester. Set in the 1950s, the acclaimed play follows Troy Maxson as past decisions and present tensions collide, pushing his family towards a reckoning.
Together the three productions form a season that spans Shakespearean tragedy, radical adaptation and twentieth century American drama, unified by themes of identity, love, power and personal legacy.
