As Inside Pussy Riot, From Les Enfants Terribles theatre company, the creators of Olivier nominated immersive smash hit Alice’s Adventures Underground, prepares to open at Saatchi Gallery, we spoke to cast member Emily Stott about this immersive new production.

You’re appearing in Inside Pussy Riot at The Saatchi Gallery, what can you tell us about it?

It is an immersive exploration of Pussy Riot that challenges the audience to find their own truth and to discover how far they’re prepared to go for what they believe in.

It’s an immersive production, without giving away too many secrets, what can audiences expect?

Expect to be treated like a prisoner. As much as this is inspired by Pussy Riot, it isn’t the story of Pussy Riot. You’re not special and you will be treated like any other prisoner and have to endure and witness what they went through too.

How much did you know about Pussy Riot before taking on the role?

To be honest, I only knew key things about Pussy Riot to begin with. I knew they were a feminist protest punk rock group. But once the audition came through I read the book Riot Days and really got to understand who they were and most importantly why they were.

Has the story of Pussy Riot taught you anything about yourself?

Yes! So much. I’ve always had strong beliefs but never felt the need to shout about them. Maybe that’s because I have never been questioned or pushed too far on those beliefs. But Pussy Riot have made me want to stand up for not just myself but for anyone else that has served an injustice.

How have the all-female cast gotten to know each other?

Well people are bound to get to know each other quite quickly when they’re put in a rehearsal room together for a long time. But I actually found that within the first few hours of knowing everyone I had quite a good grasp on how unique everyone is and why we had been put together. The nature of some of the scenes meant we had to put our trust and care into each other in order to delve into these scenes. And because of this there is always a lot of love in the room!

What has surprised you most about this production?

How close to home it is. As a woman, I felt incredibly lucky and very excited to tell Pussy Riot’s story. But now I actually feel like a member of Pussy Riot, and rather than excitement, it feels more nerve racking and urgent. I can honestly say that Inside Pussy Riot feels like the most important thing I’ve ever done. On or off stage.

Inside Pussy Riot is at Saatchi Gallery 14th November to 24th December, click here for more details.
