Interview: Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman on Choir! Choir! Choir!

“Singing and having a laugh are such big parts of British culture and that’s what we’re all about. Pair that with the best 80s tunes of all time and I think Brits will all be swiping right on Choir! Choir! Choir!”

NOBU AND DAVEED BY David Pike

NOBU AND DAVEED BY David Pike

Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman are bringing the internationally renowned Choir! Choir! Choir! to the UK and Ireland.

Opening in Birmingham on Tuesday 21st March, this duo who have performed with the likes of David Byrne, Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright and Rick Astley, are ready to teach audiences how to sing at their Epic 80’s Singalong!

Following Birmingham they will perform in Stoke on Trent, Southampton, Manchester, Oxford, Guildford, London, Brighton, Glasgow and Newcastle.  Full tour details can be found here.

You’re bringing Choir! Choir! Choir! To the UK and Ireland for the first time, how would you describe the show?

Choir! Choir! Choir! is a party where singing is the excuse to hang out in a room full of strangers and connect. You’re going to laugh, you’re going to dance, you’re going to find yourself sharing intimate details of your life, you’re going to meet people you would never have before, and yes, you’re also going to sing harmonies to some of the greatest songs of all time.

What first inspired the creation of Choir! Choir! Choir!?

When February hits in Toronto (Canada, where we live) all hope is lost. You don’t see your pals for months. So, back in 2011, we invited them out for a night of drinks and singing. We haven’t stopped since.

Choir!Choir!Choir! Will Return to the UK With Brand New Show For Autumn 2023

What’s the biggest challenge you face at each performance?

What we do is so different from a regular night in the theatre/bar/club. Every single person in the room IS the show. So the biggest hurdle for us is to light that match and get everyone on board so they’ll naturally give all their energy: sing at full volume, yell at us, share, looooooose their minds lol

How do you think British audiences will react to the format of the show?

Singing and having a laugh are such big parts of British culture and that’s what we’re all about. Pair that with the best 80s tunes of all time and I think Brits will all be swiping right on Choir! Choir! Choir!

What’s been your favourite experience of the show so far?

We’ve had so many high points throughout our 12 years so it’s hard to pick one moment. But … it’s the greatest when everyone has their parts down – huge smiles on their faces – dancing around and are filling the room with harmonies. That’s when we know they’ve caught the C!C!C! bug that bit us 12 years ago.

What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see Choir! Choir! Choir!?

You won’t know exactly what you’re getting into until the lights go down and the show begins. It’s nothing you’ve ever been to before and though it’s all about singing you don’t need a perfect voice. We’ll teach you everything you need to know at the show – no rehearsals necessary. You can be super young, super old, an extrovert, an introvert, a complete cynic… whoever you are, by the end of this you’ll be buzzing. Honestly, it’s almost embarrassing how joyful you’ll feel. But you’ll take that vibe with you into your week and you won’t be able to stop singing.
