Sooz Kempner stars in the brand new five-part musical podcast series The Ballad of Anne & Mary which launched on Thursday 29th April.

Alongside Sooz Kempner, The Ballad of Anne & Mary also stars Christina Bianco, Hamilton star Karl Queensborough, and drag legend Le Gateau Chocolat.

The Ballad of Anne & Mary is on all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Acast and Google Podcasts as well as on www.longcatmedia.com

You’re appearing in the brand-new musical podcast The Ballad of Anne & Mary, what can you tell us about it?

It’s a good old-fashioned swashbuckler musical with a fresh, female-led love story at the helm.

What were your first thoughts when you were approached to star in a musical in podcast form?

Honestly? I thought “this sounds crazy” but I’ve worked with Lindsay and Laurence before and I knew they’d make it work.

What have you enjoyed most about playing a notorious pirate?

She is a total badass! To play a woman who takes absolutely no shit from men is incredibly cathartic, particularly in our current climate. She never stops fighting even when at her lowest ebb.

It was recorded at home, during lockdown, did that make it more difficult to bounce off other members of the cast?

It wasn’t ideal but Lindsay and Laurence made it so easy, a real joy. It all came down to ace direction.

What has been your favourite experience working on this musical podcast?

Hearing it all come together for the first time! These performances you’ve had to only imagine for months are now real and breathing and you’d never know we were recording in our homes, alone, all over the world.

What would you say to anyone thinking of adding The Ballad of Anne & Mary to their playlist?

If you’ve been missing theatre and love musicals this is a proper bona fide show with a stellar cast you’d have to pay fortunes to see together on the stage. It’s the perfect escape from everything that’s going on – get swept away!
