Iron Fantasy, the new show from critically acclaimed actor-musicians She Goat, will premiere at Soho Theatre from Tuesday 10 March to Saturday 21 March 2026, with a press night on Thursday 12 March at 6.45pm.
The production, created by Olivier Award-winning artists Shamira Turner and Eugénie Pastor, blends 1990s fantasy aesthetics with medieval influences to explore one core question: what does it mean to feel strong? The result is a sweaty, funny and unexpectedly tender performance that mixes live flute, autoharp, electronic beats and even onstage raw egg eating.
The show follows two gentle, confrontation‑avoiding characters as they attempt to build strength, strap on makeshift armour and learn how to fight back. Over four years of development, the duo took up weightlifting, trained with a fight choreographer and led workshops with women and children to find out how ideas of strength are formed and gendered.
Eugénie Pastor said:
We wanted to make this show to find out if we could feel strong, and to do that we had to ask: why didn’t we feel strong already? Through workshops with participants of all ages, we’ve been exploring what it means to grow up, live, age with the idea that one is ‘less’ physically strong than others. This felt more urgent as our own bodies kept changing, in a world that shows no sign of reducing its epidemic of violence against women and girls.
Shamira Turner said:
Making this show, our relationship to our bodies began to shift from how they look from the outside towards what they can do and how that feels from the inside. We hope the show can reimagine what ‘strong’ is. Can we vanquish our fears? Can we find the strength to stand firm as the world crashes down around us? Have we made some songs about it? Yes, we have!
Past reviews of their work highlight their bold approach. The Stage praised DoppelDänger as “surreally funny… They use their bodies boldly, in a way that is still rare to see in women on stage”, while Exeunt called it “completely engrossing.”
The piece runs for 75 minutes and is suitable for ages 14 plus. Content guidance includes references to sexual and gender-based violence, anxiety, bereavement and illness.
