Italia Conti Ensemble will present the provocative play The Last Days of Judas Iscariot at at the Golden Goose Theatre on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th July, and then performing at Theatre Peckham on Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July.

On alternate dates the other half of their year group will perform Second From Last in the Sack Race.

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is a wildly funny courtroom drama in which history’s most infamous betrayal is dissected by forces of good and evil. It tells the story of Judas as he awaits trial in purgatory. Whether Judas enters heaven or burns in hell rests upon the witness testimony of saints and sinners including Satan, Pontius Pilate, Mother Teresa, and Sigmund Freud.

Told in the poetic language of the streets of New York, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot contemplates the consequences of choice and the limits of forgiveness.

The Inquirer called it “an ambitious, complicated and an often laugh-out-loud religious debate,” and Variety called it “A real jaw-dropper. Guirgis’s imagination is dazzling and his command of language downright thrilling.”

Stephen Adly Guirgis, best known for his critically acclaimed Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train (Donmar Warehouse West End and off-Broadway) is one of the most vibrant and exciting new writers of the 21st century.

Second From Last in the Sack Race is born from the mind of David Knobbs and adapted to stage by Michael Birch.

Born into poverty, wealthless in both love and money, burdened with a parrot-strangler for a dad, dim whited and awkward, young Henry Pratt isn’t exactly blessed with the luck of life. David Knobbs manages to bring to life the brilliantly funny conjuration of Yorkshire boyhood in times of the Second World War. Unathletic and over-imaginative, Henry spends half of his time in his head, pondering the obscurities of life. Pratt proves, in this warm hearted, British underdog story, that no matter what life throws at you, you always have yourself… and in his case, the dream of becoming a comic.

Conti Ensemble are a group of 2nd Year Actors training at Italia Conti, and they are very excited to be staging their first professional productions.
