Hackney Empire has announced that Olivier Award winner Clive Rowe will return to the theatre for Jack and the Beanstalk in 2026, running from 21 November to 31 December.

The much‑loved performer, described as “panto royalty” by The Times, will both direct and star in the production, marking a major highlight of the venue’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

Audiences are invited to join happy‑go‑lucky Jack as he trades his family cow for magic beans, setting off an adventure into the clouds where he encounters giants, surprises and an enchanted world.

The pantomime promises the classic Hackney Empire blend of big laughs, vibrant music, striking costumes and plenty of audience participation.

Clive Rowe said, “Coooie, yes it’s official – I’m back. After taking this Christmas off to direct Cinderella, I decided that it’s bean too long, and my puls‑es going through the roof and beyond the clouds with excitement, as we begin climbing steadily towards Jack and the Beanstalk here at the Hackney Empire 2026. See you all there!!!”

Hackney Empire CEO Chris Sudworth added, “I’m delighted that Clive will be back on stage as well as directing this year, as part of our 125th anniversary celebrations, and for my first pantomime as Chief Executive of Hackney Empire. It wouldn’t feel right without him! We’re starting to piece together an exciting year, and we can’t wait to share more of our plans with you later in Spring.”

Four additional events for 2026 also go on sale on 30 January. These include London City Voices: Reel to Reel – Songs on Screen on 18 April, a celebration of iconic film and TV soundtracks.

Soul and disco legend Jocelyn Brown, joined by Rozalla, will headline on 24 April.

Alongside these new events, the theatre continues to offer a wide 2026 programme spanning comedy, music, theatre and dance.
