The Lion and Unicorn Theatre have announced the Artists and Theatre Companies who will be joining them as Associate Artists in 2020. The collective group of artists and creatives represents some of the most thrilling and engaging theatre makers in London today and between them count award nominated and critically acclaimed writers, directors, actors and performers who will receive the support of the Lion & Unicorn Theatre team to create brand new work for the year to come.
Proforca Theatre Company return as the managing in house Theatre Company at the theatre following successes in 2019 with the critically acclaimed Feel. Feel More and the OffWestEnd OffComm and London Pub Theatre nominated At Last which made its debut at the Theatre in its opening year. Proforca is founded by David Brady, Artistic Director of the Lion & Unicorn Theatre and will present two new pieces of work alongside two new Associate Artists who will be announced shortly.
Fight or Flight Productions also return to the theatre following a highly successful and critically acclaimed run of performances of Like You Hate Me by TE Lodge which were an integral part of the theatre’s opening season in 2019. Fight or Flight Productions are made up of Jess Barton & Ross Kernahan.
Jack Albert Cook is named writer in residence, following his successful runs of work in Feel More (2019) and also his highly successful LGBTQ+ work in the creation of Fast Love for Stupid Love Theatre. Jack will debut his second piece of work at the theatre in the year to come. Jack will also assist with development of some of the theatre’s literary and writing submissions programme in 2020.
The Lion and Unicorn will welcome Chalk Line Productions to the theatre as Associate Artists. Led by Sam Edmunds, and off the back of Chalk Line’s award nominated and very well received show Testament and forthcoming The Nobodies by Amy Guyler at the Vaults Festival. Chalk Line have worked with The Hope Theatre, taken Testament on a UK Tour as well as worked with the New Diorama.
Fresh from Camden Fringe, and the brilliant surrealist comedy EUAN, Chewboy Productions join the Lion & Unicorn to create brand new work for 2020. Chewboy productions are Georgie Bailey and Hal Darling and have previously had their work performed at Camden Fringe, Tristan Bates Theatre, Chichester Festival Spiegeltent and Brighton Fringe.
Sycorax Collective are Holli Dillon and Kim Scopes. Sycorax Collective made work which challenges taboos with a mixture of storytelling, clowning, physical theatre and puppetry. “Blue” which they performed at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre in 2019 was critically acclaimed and nominated for London Pub Theatres Standing Ovation Award.
Finally, the theatre will back Far Cry Theatre to the Lion & Unicorn Theatre as fully fledged Associate Artists. Far Cry are Gabrielle Nellis-Pain and Claire Lowrie, and create work which melds theatre and art in different mediums, which includes working with a wide range of comedians, musicians, writers, directors and actors.
