London City Ballet will return to New York’s Joyce Theater this October, presenting two contrasting mixed programmes that combine celebrated ballet classics with contemporary choreography.
The award-winning company, led by Artistic Director Christopher Marney, will perform at The Joyce Theater’s Tino & Rajika Puri Auditorium from 27 October to 1 November 2026.
The engagement will feature works by John Neumeier, Glen Tetley, Jerome Robbins, Ashley Page, Florent Melac and Tasha Chu, showcasing the company’s commitment to both preserving ballet heritage and championing new choreographic voices.
World-renowned ballerina Alina Cojocaru will guest star in select performances of John Neumeier’s Ghost Light, a work described as a reflection on the artists who have shaped theatre stages across generations.
Programme A includes Ashley Page’s Mephisto Waltz, Tasha Chu’s Soon, Jerome Robbins’ Quiet City and Neumeier’s Ghost Light. The appearance also marks the first New York staging of Quiet City since 1991.
Programme B celebrates the centenary of influential choreographer Glen Tetley with a revival of his gothic interpretation of Firebird. The programme is completed by Page’s Mephisto Waltz and Florent Melac’s Soft Shore, performed with live music.
Founded by Harold King in 1978, London City Ballet became the resident company of Sadler’s Wells and established an international reputation, with Diana, Princess of Wales serving as Royal Patron.
After closing in 1996, the company was reformed in 2023 under Christopher Marney and returned to the stage the following year. Since its revival, the company has focused on commissioning new work while restoring significant but rarely performed pieces to the repertoire.
The New York season continues London City Ballet’s mission to reconnect audiences with important works from ballet history while providing a platform for contemporary choreographers.
