The Australian Shakespeare Company is set to return to the stunning grounds of Kew Gardens this summer with a trio of magical productions.

Running from 18 July to 31 August 2025, audiences can enjoy Macbeth, Alice in Wonderland, and The Dream Fairies – Adventure Through Bubble Land as part of Theatre on Kew’s outdoor theatre season.

All three productions are directed by ASC’s Artistic Director, Glenn Elston, who brings his signature flair for accessible and imaginative storytelling to each show.

“In my job there is nothing more rewarding than watching families laugh together and create lifelong memories,” said Elston. “I can’t wait to see the young kids (and some of the adults) arriving dressed up as Fairies or their favourite super-hero then joining in the fun, singing along with the Fairies before we go running off to bubble-land to search for Tink’s lost wings.

“For the older kids Alice is a delightful adventure with lots of interactive moments along the way, including becoming the flamingos in the croquet game.

“We had an amazing time producing Macbeth and I can’t wait to showcase this production in Kew Gardens. It’s a mesmerising and visceral production that I’m sure will be enjoyed even more in Kew’s stunning setting.”

Tickets to all performances include entry to Kew Gardens, allowing audiences to explore the 320-acre site before enjoying a show under the sun or stars.

Families can also take advantage of Kew’s Treetop Walkway, Badger Sett, Log Trail and Remarkable Trees trail during their visit.

Macbeth

Fresh from a sold-out season in Melbourne, Macbeth stars Hugh Sexton as the title character and Nicole Nabout as Lady Macbeth.

This critically acclaimed production promises a visceral and atmospheric experience, set among the trees as twilight descends.

Performances run Tuesday to Sunday at 7.30pm, with a press night on 30 July.

Alice in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll’s beloved tale comes to life in a whimsical and interactive production perfect for families.

Audiences will meet the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter and more in a world of song, dance and delightful nonsense.

Performances run Wednesday to Sunday at 11am, with additional 2.30pm shows on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Press night is 25 July at 2.30pm.

The Dream Fairies – Adventure Through Bubble Land

Tinkerbell joins the fairies from A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a musical quest to find her lost wings.

Children are encouraged to dress up and join the fairies on their journey to Bubble Land in this interactive and enchanting show.

Performances run Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday at 10.30am, with additional 2.30pm shows on Friday and Saturday. Press performance is 24 July at 10.30am.
