Theatre Peckham Announces Festive Family Show Alice in Wonderland

Reading Time: 3 mins read

This Christmas, Theatre Peckham invites audiences to tumble down the rabbit hole with a bold new reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, running from 5–23 December 2025.

Written by acclaimed playwright and actor Geoff Aymer and directed by Theatre Peckham’s Artistic Director and CEO Suzann McLean MBE, Alice in Wonderland promises a vibrant, contemporary twist on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale.

“Alice in Wonderland is a timeless story about imagination, identity, and courage,” says Suzann McLean. “Our reimagining puts Peckham at the heart of Wonderland, with original music and a cast brimming with talent. This Christmas, we want families to experience the magic of theatre together — real world, real magic, really Peckham.”

Aymer’s script brings fresh humour and modern relevance to the story, while McLean leads a creative team delivering dazzling visuals and original music.

“It’s what happens when a young girl is transported into a surreal world with no devices, where she can only use her wits and intellect to navigate the strangeness,” says Geoff Aymer. “Alice in Wonderland is a celebration of curiosity, courage and rediscovering the magic that lives beyond the screen.”

The production stars Carma Hylton, best known for her role as Candi-Rose in CBBC’s The Dumping Ground, as Alice.

“I am delighted to be playing Alice in Alice in Wonderland,” says Hylton. “I am also excited to bring my passion for storytelling to the stage in this magical production.”

Joining her are Felicity Ison as Snowy B (a twist on the White Rabbit), Siphiwo Mahlentle as Chesh (a reimagined Cheshire Cat), and Oscar Sinclair as the bold and unpredictable Queen of Hearts.

They are supported by 30 young performers aged 9–16 from the Theatre Peckham Academy, adding local energy and talent to the festive production.

The creative team includes composer Jordan Xavier, designer Emilia Mendez, musical director Ben Christopher, movement director Shakeil Edwards, lighting designer Jahmiko Marshall, and sound designer Sasha Howe.

With a score blending reggae, soul, and sing-along tunes, Alice in Wonderland is a joyful, unpredictable festive adventure for the whole family.

Alice is a teenage girl trapped in her virtual screen world — until she’s suddenly transported to a magical land where she must rely on her imagination and courage to survive.

Can she navigate Wonderland’s riddles and challenges and make it back to the real world in time for Christmas?
