Following a critically acclaimed debut at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe and a sold-out run at London’s Soho Theatre, Main Character Energy is set to tour the UK this autumn.

Created by and starring Sex Education writer and Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree Temi Wilkey, this genre-defying solo show opens at Bristol Old Vic on 6 October 2025, before heading to The Nest at Chichester Festival Theatre and Sheffield Theatres.

Directed by Ragevan Vasan and produced by Bobby Harding, Main Character Energy is a high-octane, fourth-wall-breaking parody of the one-woman play.

At first glance, it’s the autobiographical tale of a beautiful, supremely talented Black actress determined to take up space. But as the show unfolds, it spirals into a riot of music, physical comedy, and theatrical chaos.

The result is a gloriously camp, razor-sharp takedown of ego, identity, and the exhausting pressure to perform your worth.

Main Character Energy is the first in a planned trilogy, with a sequel premiering in 2026 and a final instalment in 2027.

Temi Wilkey is an award-winning actor and writer whose debut play The High Table won the Stage Debut Award. Her screenwriting credits include Sex Education (Netflix) and Wedding Season (Disney+).

Director Ragevan Vasan is a British Tamil actor and theatre-maker with credits at Ricochet Theatre and the Royal Court. Producer Bobby Harding is a Walsall-born, non-binary creative known for bold, queer-led performance.

As part of the Bristol run, a special BLACK OUT night will take place on Thursday 9 October, exclusively for Black-identifying audience members. The post-show discussion will be led by award-winning artist Travis Alabanza.
