Barn Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of Million Dollar Quartet will embark on a major UK tour in 2027 following its current London season at The Arts at Marble Arch: powered by TodayTix.
Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle, with a book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, the hit musical will tour 23 venues across the UK between January and July 2027. The production is led by stage and screen favourite Darren Day as Sam Phillips, the influential producer credited with creating the sound of rock ’n’ roll.
Inspired by the legendary recording session that took place on 4 December 1956, Million Dollar Quartet tells the story of the extraordinary night Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley came together at Sun Records in Memphis.
Seventy years on from that historic jam session, audiences can relive the moment that helped shape popular music through a soundtrack featuring classics including “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Fever”, “Walk The Line” and “Hound Dog”.
The touring production follows an extended run at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester and its current London season, which runs until 6 December 2026 and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the recording session that inspired the musical.
The UK tour opens at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on 26 January 2027 before visiting venues including Southend, Liverpool, Glasgow, Bromley, Ipswich, Cheltenham, Bradford, Windsor, Aberdeen, Portsmouth, Wolverhampton, Blackpool and Malvern.
The production’s creative team includes choreographer Joanna Goodwin, set and costume designer Libby Watson, lighting designer Alex Musgrave, sound designer Nick Lodge, musical supervisor Lee Freeman and casting director Harry Blumenau.
The tour marks another success for the Barn Theatre’s Built by Barn programme, which develops productions in Cirencester before transferring to wider audiences across the UK.
Iwan Lewis, CEO and Artistic Director of the Barn Theatre, said, “The greatest night in rock ‘n’ roll history is going on the road! From the Barn Theatre to the West End and now across the UK, Million Dollar Quartet’s extraordinary journey continues. Seventy years after four legends made music history, their music is still bringing audiences to their feet. We couldn’t be prouder, and the party is only just getting started!”
Since premiering on Broadway in 2010, Million Dollar Quartet has enjoyed international success, earning three Tony Award nominations and winning Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Levi Kreis’s performance as Jerry Lee Lewis. The musical subsequently premiered in the West End in 2011 and has enjoyed multiple UK tours.
