My Brother’s a Genius comes to Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre on 5 and 6 March, bringing an explosive and humorous exploration of neurodiversity, ambition and sibling bonds.
The play introduces Daisy and Luke, twins growing up on a high-rise estate where the labels placed on them begin to shape their futures. Daisy is dismissed as the ‘idiot’, while Luke is celebrated as the ‘genius’, yet both share a dream of flying that could either lift them up together or drive them apart.
Written by Debris Stevenson and developed through conversations with young people nationwide, My Brother’s a Genius combines poetry, music and movement as it examines the pressures young people face and the expectations placed upon them.
The production is a Theatre Centre, Sheffield Theatres and National Youth Theatre co-production.
Its development has been supported by Creative Crawley and Stanley Arts London.
Schools are encouraged to book, with packages including curriculum-linked resources and exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Schools using the show for the GCSE Drama Live Performance unit will also receive a filmed version to revisit in the classroom.
My Brother’s a Genius will be performed at 1pm and 7.30pm on Thursday 5 March, and at 11am on Friday 6 March. Tickets are available from the box office on 01723 370541 and online at www.sjt.uk.com.
