The National Theatre has unveiled a new free exhibition by renowned graphic artist Anthony Burrill, opening today in the Lyttelton Lounge.
Titled Find Your Voice, Tell Your Story, the exhibition celebrates 50 years of the National Theatre on the South Bank and draws inspiration from Burrill’s long-standing relationship with the iconic building.
The exhibition showcases work from a body of art Burrill first began developing in 2004, tracing the evolution of his distinctive approach to language, communication and design over more than two decades.
To mark the National Theatre building’s 50th year on the South Bank, Burrill has created a brand-new artwork, Find Your Voice, Tell Your Story, presented in two colourways alongside a unique woodcut piece.
The National Theatre previously collaborated with Burrill in 2023 on artwork for Grenfell: in the words of survivors, Gillian Slovo’s verbatim play created from interviews with residents affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
Known for combining letterpress printing with bold and optimistic messages, Burrill’s work reflects a belief in the power of words, humour and straightforward communication. His collaborations span architecture, music, education and cultural organisations, creating a distinctive visual language recognised around the world.
Anthony Burrill said, “It’s a huge honour to share my work with visitors to the National Theatre. I’ve known and loved this building ever since I first moved to London in the late 1980s, and it has been part of my cultural landscape ever since. It feels particularly fitting to exhibit work that has human connection at its heart in a place that has brought so many people together”.
The exhibition will run until summer 2027.
Visitors will also be able to purchase artwork from the exhibition, including signed limited-edition prints, through the NT Bookshop and online.
