Cardiff-based writer Neil Bebber has teamed up with London-based actor Jordan Bernarde and director Natalie Denton to produce an online version of his play BREATHE.
The same team worked on a previous version of the play last year as part of a night of new work at The Bread & Roses Theatre in London and, prompted by actor, Jordan, they reunited to re-tell this redemptive story of a man who’s fallen between the cracks of society.
Following a redraft of the play, to create a tone more sympathetic to the world we’re currently experiencing, rehearsals took place remotely at venues in London during lockdown.
The resulting online film of the play, though produced during lockdown, isn’t about lockdown, which might prove music to the ears of the lockdown-diary-weary.
“I think it shows what can be done, in spite of the ongoing limitations created for producing new work”, says Bebber. “It’s also strange to think, that at the time of writing, the play’s been viewed by more than 500 people in 4 days, which is more than might have experienced it during the same period in a studio theatre.”
BREATHE is available to view online here: https://youtu.be/onai6VFQ_rQ until midnight on Sunday 24th of May.
