New Generation Festival

New Generation Festival

Taking place from 29th August – 1st September 2018 in Florence, Italy, The New Generation Festival will be taking over The Gardens of the Palazzo Corsini for its highly anticipated second year, creating an international platform for the finest, young music talent.

After a magical first year, co-founders conductor Maximilian Fane, and producers Granville & Parham, have collaborated with a diverse and young team, gathering together some of the world’s most exciting music stars and promising new talent. An annual event that breaks down barriers between generations, this is a festival by new generation artists to inspire new generation audiences.

Throughout the weekend, audiences will take to the Corsini Gardens in the heart of Florence for open-air musical and dramatic performances. The New Generation Festival’s musical programme will feature Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart, with Simon Schnorr, Anush Hovhannisyan, Rachel Kelly, Roman Lyulkin, Juan de Dios Mateos, Louise Kemény and Vazgen Gazaryan in the lead roles. Alongside this will be a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Symphony No. 5 featuring soloist Charlie Siem.

This year, The New Generation Festival will also host a full staging of William Shakespeare’s Henry V starring Jack Gordon and Alice St Clair. Never performed before with a full live orchestra, this truly theatrical event, will be set to the orchestral score by Sir William Walton, made famous by the 1942 Lawrence Olivier film. Jonathan Santagada, an exciting young Italian conductor who had worked closely with Sir Antonio Pappano for several years at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, will conduct the Shakespeare evening.

Continuing to provide young talent with a platform, The New Generation Festival will be holding a 10-day intensive training and performance programme for aspiring singers, alongside leading professional teachers and coaches from major UK conservatoires and training institutions such as the National Opera Studio and the ROH Jette Parker Young Artists Programme. The summer school will guide students through musical training, public masterclasses and psychology workshops, resulting in the unique experience of being part of the chorus in The New Generation Festival main stage productions.

An exciting addition to the upcoming festival, and all-new for 2018, is an array of day-time events taking place throughout the beautiful Tuscan capital. These include exclusive wine tastings, cultural tours and excursions and a variety of art events including exhibitions and galleries. The New Generation Festival will also play host to a programme curated by DJ Harold Van Lennep, featuring an array of non-classical performances from up-and-coming bands and international DJs. These will take place in unique venues across the expansive gardens, from historic halls and out-buildings, within floral corners of the gardens themselves and a perhaps even in a secret Florentine location.

Concealed behind the façade of the Prato di Ognissanti’s famous Palazzo Corsini is one of Florence’s finest gardens. Between each performance, guests can explore the tranquility of this unique and scenic setting.

A variety of food and refreshments will be available and guests can relax on picnic furniture and blankets and bask under the warm Italian evening sun.
