The producers of One Day have unveiled an exclusive acoustic performance from the new musical to mark St Swithin’s Day, the pivotal date at the heart of David Nicholls’ bestselling novel.
Filmed at the Garrick Theatre ahead of the show’s West End transfer, the performance features Sharon Rose, who plays Emma, performing ‘Blackbirds’ alongside the song’s writer, Abner Ramirez.
St Swithin’s Day is the annual date that reunites Emma and Dexter throughout the story’s two-decade journey, which begins with a chance encounter at their Edinburgh graduation ball in 1988.
The song captures the emotion and vulnerability of Emma and Dexter’s first meeting and offers audiences an early glimpse of the musical ahead of its London premiere.
Performances of One Day begin at the Garrick Theatre on 17 November 2026, with Sharon Rose and Jamie Muscato returning to their acclaimed roles as Emma and Dexter.
Based on David Nicholls’ internationally bestselling novel and the Focus Features film adaptation, the musical follows Emma and Dexter through the highs and lows of adulthood, exploring friendship, ambition, heartbreak and enduring love.
The production features a book by David Greig, music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of the acclaimed band Johnnyswim, additional material by Jeremy Sams and direction by Max Webster.
Described as a life-affirming new musical, One Day brings one of the most beloved love stories of the 21st century to the stage, following a novel that has sold more than five million copies worldwide and inspired both film and television adaptations.
The creative team also includes choreographer Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, musical supervisor Nigel Lilley, set and costume designer Rae Smith, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Simon Baker, orchestrator Simon Hale and casting director Stuart Burt CDG.
Full casting for the production is yet to be announced.
