Mind The Monsters

Summer’s coming and it is time to pick up the guy ropes and pitch the tent for the return of Oxford Playhouse’s hugely popular Playhouse Plays Out Tent Tour, the theatre’s free, family-friendly summer touring production around Oxfordshire.

Meet Joy and Hope. Together they are Planet Brain’s weather-watching mind-mappers. Join them and their friends The Overthinking Octopus, Perfect Pixie, The Aware-Wolf and others on an interactive adventure around the brain. Complete your monster training and help them ward off worries from the Head Goblin.

This year the travelling tent will be performing Mind The Monsters, a fun-filled interactive adventure around the brain.  Written by Ben Watson and directed by Al Miller, Mind The Monsters is 50mins long and is aimed at ages 5 to 11 years.

The show will be travelling to community sites and parks around Oxfordshire from Saturday 1st July to Sunday 16 July and will finish the tour with performances at the Playhouse’s Burton Taylor Studio on Wed 19 to Sun 30 July.

Originally set up in 2012 the Playhouse Plays Out Tent tour was conceived to bring great theatre to as many people as possible.  Each year thousands of children and their families have a free taste of theatre as the pop up tent tours the county.

Head of Participation Paul Simpson said ‘We are so thrilled to be back on tour this summer, bringing exciting theatre directly to young people and families across Oxfordshire, specifically to schools, communities and groups who might otherwise face barriers to engaging with cultural opportunities. This year we bring a fun and interactive performance, Mind the Monsters, which introduces important themes of mental wellbeing to young people (and adults!), particularly in the wake of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. We have been so grateful for the support of schools and, particularly, our partner charity One-Eighty, in shaping our story and our supporting educational resources. We hope to see you on the road!”
