Pentabus, the UK’s leading rural theatre company, has announced its 2023 Spring/Summer Season with a lineup that showcases their commitment to telling captivating stories about the contemporary rural world. The season features three new play premieres, including “The Silence and the Noise,” “DESTINY,” and “Where Do We Go From Here?” by Pentabus Young Writers, two new Writers-in-Residence, and a return of the Young Writers live production.
Elle While, Pentabus Artistic Director, said, “Pentabus is celebrating and elevating rural stories with three premieres of astonishing new plays by playwrights that ask urgent questions and tell big stories with thrilling imagination, compassion, and wit.”
“The Silence and the Noise,” written by Pentabus CRF Writer in Residence 2020 Tom Powell and co-produced with Rural Media, will have its film premier at the Vaults Festival in the Cavern on Sunday, February 19th. “DESTINY,” written by Pentabus CRF Writer in Residence 2021 Florence Espeut-Nickless and co-produced with Rural Media, will premiere at the Borderlines Film Festival on March 8th and is a re-imagination of the hit play from the Edinburgh Festival 2022.
“Where Do We Go From Here?” is a collection of eight short new plays by the Pentabus Young Writers, to be performed at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms on July 6th and 7th. In addition, “One of Them Ones” written by Charlie Josephine, will open in March 2023 and tour the UK, including London dates at Brixton House on May 13th and 14th.
Pentabus is also proud to welcome two new Writers-in-Residence, Henry Maddicott through the Peggy Ramsay Foundation/Film 4 Awards Scheme and Laura Waldren through the Clive Richards Foundation award, who will be with the company for one year.
With a vision singularly rural, Pentabus tours new plays to new audiences in village halls, fields, festivals, and theatres, telling stories with both local relevance and national and international impact. Based in a Victorian school in rural Shropshire, the company has produced 174 new plays to date and reached over half a million audience members.
The 2023 Spring/Summer Season promises to be another exciting chapter in Pentabus’ mission to bring exceptional theatre to every person living in isolated rural communities.
