1984 Questors Theatre

1984 Questors Theatre

The Questors’ celebrate a monumental 90 years of their theatre, coinciding with 70 years since the publication of 1984. Marking this anniversary, they are putting on a striking production of Orwell’s most highly commended work – one which continues to resonate with our times.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength…

The year is 1984, and Winston Smith lives in the crumbling metropolis of London. He is a government employee in this terrifying dystopian world, and his job is to the rewrite history for the Ministry of Truth.

When he is handed a note that says ‘I love you’ by a woman he barely knows, he tries to rebel against this repressive regime and risk everything to search for the truth. But in this closely monitored society, is there any escape from Big Brother?

1984 is adapted for stage by Matthew Dunster and is directed by Roger Beaumont.  It runs at The Questors Theatre, Judi Dench Playhouse, 7th – 15th November 2019.
