The Poetry We Make Vault Festival

The Poetry We Make Vault Festival

Love, Loss, Dolly Parton and Understanding Love Beyond Gender.

Who do we fall in love with: a body, a soul, a gender? When Elliot discovers the love of her life Robin has started to transition to become a women, her world turns upside down. With the help of her hero and spirit guide Dolly Parton, Elliot examines the memories of the man she loved – re-imagining what it means to be in a women, and what it means to be in love.

Featuring live performances of some of Dolly Parton’s greatest hits, The Poetry We Make explores love, loss and what gender actually counts for. Based on real life events, developed by RADA graduates, Jaswinder Blackwell-Pal Edwina Strobl, this fresh new work brings together an extraordinary cast of performers and musicians, including Elena Voce, Mia Hall and transgender performer Elijah W. Harris.

Flugelman Productions won the O2’s ThinkBig bursary to develop this show, with additional aid from StoneCrabs Theatre, supported by Wilton’s Music Hall and the Old Vic New Voices project for outstanding young artists.

The Poetry We Make provides an intimate narrative into the effects of the transition of gender on a pre-exiting, formerly heteronormative and cis relationship. Flugelman Productions hopes to open a forum of discussion into transgender awareness by welcoming and challenging their audiences to continue the battle towards equality for non-cis identifying individuals.
