Lyric Hammersmith Theatre has released new production images for its revival of An Ideal Husband, directed by Nicholai La Barrie.

The production is currently running at the Lyric until 6 June 2026, before transferring to Bristol Old Vic from 10 to 20 June.

Staged 100 years after the play’s last appearance at the Lyric in 1926, this new version reimagines Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy in a contemporary setting, exploring themes of love, betrayal and scandal in modern London society.

The cast includes Emmanuel Akwafo as Mason/Phipps, Jeff Alexander as the Earl of Caversham, Nimmy March as Lady Basildon and Suzette Llewellyn as Lady Markby.

They are joined by Tamara Lawrance as Lady Chiltern, Tiwa Lade as Mabel Chiltern, Chiké Okonkwo as Lord Chiltern and Aurora Perrineau as Mrs Cheveley.

Also in the cast are Sule Thelwell as Vicomte De Nanjac and Jamael Westman as Lord Goring.

The production follows Sir Robert Chiltern, a respected figure with a seemingly perfect life whose reputation is threatened when Mrs Cheveley arrives with secrets that could ruin him.

As scandal unfolds, questions of morality, loyalty and ambition come to the fore in Wilde’s sharp social satire.

The creative team includes set and costume designer Rajha Shakiry, lighting designer Zeynep Kepekli, sound designer Holly Khan and movement director Alexzandra Sarmiento.
