New production images have been released for The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekhov’s final masterpiece, currently playing at the Harold Pinter Theatre until 9 January 2027.

The images, photographed by Johan Persson, offer a first look at Sonia Friedman Productions’ new staging of the classic drama, adapted by Conor McPherson and directed by Ian Rickson.

BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning Kristin Scott Thomas leads the cast as Lyubov Ranevskaya, opposite Stephen Mangan as Lopakhin in Rickson’s production of the play.

The company also includes Ruby Bentall, Megan Cusack, Karl Johnson, Anastasia Martin, Noof Ousellam, Jeff Rawle, Jack Riddiford, Vinette Robinson, Shubham Saraf and Peter Wight, alongside Kathleen Cranham, Rachel Dawson, Fergus Murphy, Philip Bosworth, Alex Childs, Paul Easom and Miles Paloma.

The production marks a reunion for Mangan and Rickson, who previously collaborated on Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party in 2018.

It also brings together Rickson and Scott Thomas for another Chekhov classic, following their acclaimed production of The Seagull, for which Scott Thomas won the Olivier Award for Best Actress.

Rickson and McPherson reunite once again after their previous collaborations on The Weir and Uncle Vanya.

Alongside the release of the new images, the production has announced a £30 ticket initiative for audience members under 30. From 20 October, the entire front row of the Stalls will be made available at the reduced price, creating more than 1,700 affordable tickets throughout the run.

Described as a story of a society on the brink of change, The Cherry Orchard follows Lyubov Ranevskaya as she returns to her childhood estate to find her family home and beloved orchard facing an uncertain future.

The production features set design by Chloe Lamford, costumes by Sussie Juhlin-Wallén, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound design by Tom Gibbons, music by Stephen Warbeck, movement direction by Shelley Maxwell and casting by Amy Ball CDG.

The Cherry Orchard is produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions and Winkler & Smalberg.
