New production images have been released for the world premiere of Affluenza, the first play in Riverside Studios’ Mainstage Season 26/27.
Written and directed by Andy Sandberg, the darkly comic drama stars Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp, making his stage debut, alongside Strictly Come Dancing favourite Janette Manrara. The cast also includes Rupert Young, Juliet Cowan, Wallis Currie-Wood and Donald Sage Mackay.
The production is currently in previews at Riverside Studios and has already extended its limited engagement due to strong ticket demand. The run will now continue until 28 November 2026.
Inspired by true events surrounding a controversial legal defence, Affluenza examines the impact of wealth, privilege and responsibility after a teenager’s drunken car ride ends in tragedy.
Set in the affluent Hamptons, the play explores questions of moral accountability, family legacy and the influence of privilege on the American justice system.
Playwright and director Andy Sandberg said: “We’ve been thrilled by the audience’s reaction to Affluenza in previews. The extraordinary cast have brought my characters to life in the most wonderful way, and we’re set for a phenomenal run between now and 28 November”.
Affluenza marks the first of five productions in Riverside Studios’ Mainstage Season 26/27, all directed by Sandberg. The season will continue with the world premiere of Sacrilegious by Oscar-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman, followed by Expecting by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola, starring John Bradley, Joe Dempsie, Katie Leung and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell.
The creative team for Affluenza includes set designer Charlie Corcoran, costume designer and associate set designer Hannah Schmidt, lighting designer Jack Weir, sound designer Emily Drohan, composer Will Van Dyke, casting director Nicholas Hockaday, associate director Cecilie Fray and assistant director Florence Carr-Jones.
Affluenza runs at Riverside Studios until 28 November 2026, with press night taking place on 5 October.
