Sheffield Theatres has released rehearsal images for its upcoming co-production of Summer Holiday The Musical, directed by Artistic Director Elizabeth Newman and Ben Occhipinti.
The production brings the iconic 1960s film to the stage in a feel-good musical packed with classic hits including Summer Holiday, The Young Ones and Dancing Shoes.
The story follows Don and his friends as they embark on a European adventure aboard a double decker bus, travelling through Paris, the Alps, Italy and Greece in search of fun, music and romance.
The cast includes Fanta Barrie, Jim Duah, Ava Duncan, Charlie Hale, Nis Raza Hamilton, Robin Harris, Matthew James Hinchliffe, Damian Humbley, George Jones, Elliot Mackenzie, Jane McCarry, Isaac Savage, Tolia Uwalaka and Trudy Ward.
Elizabeth Newman and Ben Occhipinti said: “For us, Summer Holiday is pure joy – full of freedom, adventure, music and heart. We’re incredibly excited to bring a fresh new energy to this iconic musical and create a production that feels vibrant, uplifting and bursting with life.”
The creative team also includes Set and Costume Designer Amanda Stoodley, Musical Director Richard Reeday, Movement Director Lesley Hutchison, Lighting Designer Rory Beaton, Sound Designer Tom Marshall, Associate Director Eilidh Gibson and Casting Director Arthur Carrington CDG.
Stage adaptation is by Michael Gyngell and Mark Haddigan, based on the film directed by Peter Yates with a screenplay by Ronald Cass and Peter Myers.
Summer Holiday The Musical opens at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Saturday 20 June, with a press night on 25 June, and runs until 18 July before transferring to Blackpool Grand Theatre from 29 July to 8 August.
