London Theatre Company has unveiled new rehearsal room photos for The Lady from the Sea, written and directed by Simon Stone after Henrik Ibsen. The production opens next month at the Bridge Theatre.
Previews begin Wednesday 10 September, with opening night on Thursday 18 September. The run continues for nine weeks until Saturday 8 November 2025.
Alicia Vikander stars as Ellida, alongside Andrew Lincoln as Edward. They are joined by Isobel Akuwudike as Hilda, Joe Alwyn as Heath, Brendan Cowell as Finn Marcet, John Macmillan as Lyle, and Gracie Oddie-James as Asa.
Understudies include Daniel Gregory (covering Lyle & Heath), Sarah Moss (covering Ellida), Sadhbha Odufuwa-Bolger (covering Asa & Hilda), and Nathan Wiley (covering Edward & Finn).
The Lady from the Sea is Ibsen’s most radically modern portrayal of a woman’s fight for autonomy in her relationship. It is a thrilling dissection of desire, loss and rebirth for the contemporary age.
Fearful she may have settled too easily for a comfortable life married to a well-off doctor, Ellida searches for a way to break the predictable routine her existence has become. When a lover from her past appears at their remote country house, she must choose between the life she has now built and the one she left behind long ago.
Simon Stone, acclaimed for his radical reimaginings of classic works including Yerma and Phaedra, makes his Bridge Theatre debut with this production.
The creative team includes set designer Lizzie Clachan, costume designer Mel Page, composition and sound designer Stefan Gregory, lighting designer Nick Schlieper, and casting director Jessica Ronane CDG.
Also on the team are associate director Seán Linnen, associate lighting designer Guy Jones, assistant designer Pip Terry, intimacy coordinator David Thackeray, costume supervisor Anna Josephs, props supervisor Lily Mollgaard, and production manager Jim Leaver.
Produced by London Theatre Company and Wouter van Ransbeek, The Lady from the Sea promises to be a compelling addition to the autumn theatre season.
