Review: SABRAGE at Lafayette

"a smash-hit spectacle that bubbles over with brilliance and cheeky charm"

Five Star Review from Theatre WeeklyThe return of Sabrage to London is a triumph, a smash-hit spectacle that bubbles over with brilliance and cheeky charm. Back at Lafayette due to popular demand, this immersive theatrical experience is fizzier than a magnum of Moët and twice as intoxicating.

Directed by Scott Maidment Sabrage is a genre-defying celebration of performance art. From the moment you enter the venue, it feels like the night has begun. Lafayette’s intimate layout, hidden speakeasy bar and table-side food and drink service create an atmosphere that’s as much part of the experience as the acts themselves. It’s theatre, nightlife and indulgence rolled into one.

Don’t try to guess what might be coming next, we’re presented with a whirlwind of acts that range from jaw-dropping acrobatics to cheeky lip syncs and riotous physical comedy, the unpredictability is part of the thrill. Named after the ceremonial art of opening champagne with a saber, the show lives up to its name; sharp, sparkling and just a little bit naughty.

The cast is a powerhouse of international talent. Kimberley Bargenquast and Flynn Miller (Duo Wonderlust) bring elegance and strength to the aerial acts, while Skye Ladell, Rechelle Mansour, Remi Martin, Christian Nimri, Spencer Novich and Emma Phillips each shine in their own right. Whether juggling tables with their feet or serving champagne from a height, these performers are world-class.

The hosts (Remi Martin and Spencer Novich)  are a particular highlight; ballsy, bold and utterly captivating, they keep the energy high and the audience engaged throughout. There’s plenty of interaction, with guests frequently drawn into the action in ways that are playful and never intrusive. It’s this sense of shared experience that makes Sabrage feel so alive.

Visually, the show is a feast. Lavish costumes shimmer under impressive lighting design, adding a layer of glamour that’s pure cabaret decadence. And yes, champagne flows freely, both on stage and off. If theatre were a bottle of bubbly, Sabrage would be vintage.

The return of Sabrage to London is a celebration of theatrical excess, a joyous riot of talent and spectacle that’s impossible not to love. It’s not just a show, it’s an experience, and one that deserves to be your next obsession.
