Sadler’s Wells will present the return of Wild Card, with more offerings from a new generation of artists invited to curate their own night.
On Thursday 20 and Friday 21 January, Sadler’s Wells welcomes Akeim Toussaint Buck to the Lilian Baylis Studio to present his Wild Card, Radical Visions.
The evening features live music, spoken word, film and powerful performances by artists who work with the themes of social transformation and diasporic identity. The evening celebrates the resilience and joy of the artists’ communities whilst underlining the oppression and trauma they face.
London-based dance duo FUBUNATION present a preview of a powerful new ensemble work Black Is…, unpacking black identity and culture.
Alethia Antonia performs an extract of her solo Inscribed In Me: a visceral expression of repairing the mind and soul from traumatic experiences. The evening also includes Displaced, created in collaboration with Ashley Karrell, a cinematic reimagining of Toussaint’s critically acclaimed solo Windows of Displacement, exploring race, identity, unity and power.
Threaded through the evening will be live music from the Radical Visions in-house band featuring Azizi Cole, Otis Jones, Pariss Elecktra and Amy Gadiaga alongside spoken word performances. The evening will close with a special ceremony led by Muti Musifiri and guests.
