Award-winning performer and songwriter Sarah McGuinness will return to London this autumn with Grit, Glitter & Gaslight – The Sarah McGuinness Story, running at Blacks, Soho from 6 November to 6 December 2026.
Presented by Dangerbag Productions, the critically acclaimed cabaret blends live music, storytelling and song to explore an extraordinary true story of identity, family and reinvention.
Staged in the intimate surroundings of the iconic Blacks Club on Dean Street, the production offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience one of Soho’s most exclusive venues following its recent refurbishment.
In a performance that moves between memoir, concert and confession, McGuinness reflects on her journey from a childhood on the Irish border in Derry to international success, revisiting the people, places and decisions that have shaped her life.
The show features songs by David Bowie, Kate Bush, Kurt Weill, Stephen Sondheim and Kander & Ebb’s Cabaret, alongside McGuinness’s own original compositions. Together, they create an evening that combines humour, emotion and personal reflection.
McGuinness began her musical career in Derry, Northern Ireland, and has since built an eclectic career as a performer, songwriter, director and designer. Her work has included collaborations with comedian Eddie Izzard, writing for film and television, and composing the soundtrack for the BAFTA-shortlisted film Noma: Forgiving Apartheid.
The production has already received strong reviews, with The List describing it as: “What a star she is. A triumphant affair!”
London Pub Theatres praised the show as “Extraordinary… relentlessly creative”, while Musical Theatre Review called it “a compelling chameleon performance”.
The limited run begins with preview performances from 6 to 8 November, ahead of an official press night on 11 November 2026.
