Tony Award winner Robert Sean Leonard and acclaimed stage and screen actor Paten Hughes will lead the cast of Interview, a gripping new psychological thriller making its world stage premiere at Riverside Studios from 23 August to 27 September 2025.

Adapted and directed by Teunkie Van Der Sluijs, Interview is a provocative two-hander that explores truth, persona, and gender power dynamics in the digital age.

Katya (Paten Hughes), a sharp-witted influencer turned movie star, is tired of being underestimated and misrepresented—especially by male journalists.

When Pierre Peters (Robert Sean Leonard), a once-prominent political journalist, is assigned to interview her, both enter the encounter with disdain and hidden agendas.

What begins as a routine interview quickly spirals into a volatile game of confession, confrontation, and manipulation, set entirely in Katya’s New York apartment.

“In an era where every screenshot can go viral, nothing is off the record,” teases the production.

The play is based on Theo van Gogh’s cult 2003 film and Theodor Holman’s screenplay, which was later adapted into a 2007 U.S. remake starring Steve Buscemi.

Now reimagined for the stage, Interview asks: Who gets to tell the story? Who owns the narrative? And what happens when the subject of the story decides to flip the script?

Teunkie Van Der Sluijs said, “Interview is the kind of drama I love most: two strangers, armed with reputations and agendas, trapped in a room. Theirs is a collision of opposites: old media versus new fame, intellect versus mass appeal, honesty versus performance. And beneath every revelation lies something darker: manipulation, fabrication, survival. Now, more than ever, we live in a world where narrative is power. Where influencer dominance, social media spectacle, and eroded trust makes Interview an exploration of how control of the story means control of reality.”

The creative team includes scenic design by Tony Award-winner and Olivier nominee Derek McLane, costume design by Bernat Buscato, lighting by Jackie Shemesh, sound by Ata Güner, and projection design by idontloveyouanymore (Anna West and Davi Callanan).

Associate designer is Ben Davies, with Zoë Templeman-Young as associate director and Christina Fulcher as movement and intimacy director.

Casting is by Julia Crampsie CDG and Wayne Linge for Crampsie Linge Casting.

Interview is general managed by Smart Entertainment and produced by Tony Award-winner Douglas Denoff, with co-producers Kevin Kinsella, Alexander “Sandy” Marshall, and Broadway Rainbows.
