Sherman Theatre has announced the full cast for its upcoming Christmas production, The Merry Adventures of Maid Marian, a brand new take on the Robin Hood legend set in south Wales.
Running from 27 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, the family show reunites the Cardiff venue with director Lee Lyford, following the success of Peter Pan in 2023.
Written by Paul Dodgson, with music and lyrics by Lucy Rivers, the production is directed by Lyford and produced in association with Theatr Iolo. The creative team also includes set and costume designer Carl Davies, musical director Tom Elstob, lighting designer Andy Pike and sound designer Sam Jones.
Leading the company in the title role is Cardiff-born Rebecca Hennessey, making her professional debut at Sherman Theatre. She is joined by fellow newcomers Ariadne Koursarou, Carwyn Jones, Ai Kumar and Kayode Shoboyede.
The cast also features familiar faces to Sherman audiences, with Keiron Self, Elin Phillips and Owen Alun returning for the festive production. All eight performers will play as actor-musicians throughout the show.
Described as a “wild and wonderful adventure”, The Merry Adventures of Maid Marian is aimed at audiences aged seven and over and their families, continuing Sherman Theatre’s long-standing tradition of producing Christmas shows with a distinctive twist.
Announcing the cast, Sherman Theatre Chief Executive Julia Barry said: “This is a cast to die for; three who have a proven track record of drawing huge belly laughs from our festival audiences, and five exceptionally talented newcomers who’ll be performing with us for the very first time.
“Working with Lee Lyford in association with Theatr Iolo – Wales’ leading children’s theatre company – is the icing on the cake. This will be a cracking night out for audiences of all ages this Christmas.”
Director Lee Lyford said: “I am delighted to be working with Sherman Theatre again, and on such a spectacle of a show. These characters are familiar to most of us, but this is a brand new adventure with an incredible cast. I can’t wait to share the joy and excitement of this fresh take on an old classic with audiences of all ages.”
Alongside The Merry Adventures of Maid Marian, Sherman Theatre will also present a new production of Pinocchio in both English and Welsh, aimed at younger audiences and touring across Wales.
