An all-star roster of performers set to play King Herod has been announced for Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The strictly limited season runs from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027, following the production’s summer engagement at The London Palladium.
Joining Sam Ryder as Jesus, the rotating line-up of King Herods will include Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob The Drag Queen, Michael Ball, Simon Russell Beale, Omid Djalili and Layton Williams.
Matt Bomer will make his West End debut in the role, appearing from 16 to 31 October.
Rob Brydon takes over from 2 to 7 November, followed by Reece Shearsmith from 9 to 14 November.
Bob The Drag Queen will appear from 16 to 21 November, with Michael Ball performing from 23 November to 5 December.
Simon Russell Beale will play the role from 7 to 12 December, followed by Omid Djalili from 14 to 19 December.
Layton Williams returns to the production from 21 December to 2 January, having previously appeared during its London Palladium run.
One final King Herod is still to be announced for the last week of performances in January 2027.
The production, directed by Tim Sheader with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt, reunites the creative team behind the acclaimed 2016 staging.
Originally created at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, this award-winning revival features a celebrated score including ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Superstar’.
Jesus Christ Superstar charts the final days of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas, blending a rock score with powerful storytelling.
The musical first premiered in 1971 and became one of the longest-running shows in West End history during its original London run.
