Broadway legend Stephen Schwartz attended the critically acclaimed London production of his musical Pippin and announced a second extension to the smash-hit season to Sunday October 3, 2021.
The immersive London production of Pippin, Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson’s iconic and unforgettable musical masterpiece, directed by Steven Dexter, is further extending its smash-hit season at Charing Cross Theatre to October 3.
Pippin was previously booking a first extension to September 5 after receiving rave reviews from the critics.
Broadway legend Stephen Schwartz (‘Wicked’, ‘Godspell’, ‘The Prince of Egypt’), its composer and lyricist, flew in from New York to watch ‘Pippin’ and gave his blessing to the production and its longer run.
He said: “I had the great pleasure of watching Steven Dexter’s wonderful 8 hander production of ‘Pippin’ at the Charing Cross Theatre this week. After nearly 50 years since its first staging, I was blown away by this imaginative new revival and delighted that audiences are still responding so strongly to the show. It gives me great pleasure to see this lovely production extend its run in London a second time, until October 3rd. So please do come and ‘Join Us!’.”
With an infectiously unforgettable score from four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz, Pippin is the story of one young man’s journey to be extraordinary. Winner of four 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, ‘Pippin’ continues to captivate and appeal to the young at heart throughout the world.
Set in the ‘Summer of Love’ of 1967, we follow Pippin, a young prince with extraordinary dreams and aspirations on his quest to find passion, fulfilment and meaning in a joyful and life affirming revival.
The producers are planning to announce several socially distanced performances during the
extension after success with them this month.
The new performance schedule will drop the current Wednesday midweek matinee and add a second show on Sundays.
The cast features: Ryan Anderson (as Pippin) and Natalie McQueen (Catherine) with the rest of the extension cast to be announced.
