The hit rock’n’roll play Stereophonic, written by David Adjmi and directed by Daniel Aukin, has announced an extension to its West End run.
Originally scheduled to close earlier in the year, Stereophonic will now play at the Duke of York’s Theatre until 22 November 2025.
Hailed as “an extraordinary, electrifying odyssey” by The Guardian and “an instant classic” by Rolling Stone, Stereophonic immerses audiences in the high-stakes world of a 1970s rock band recording the album that could make or break them.
The production features original songs by Academy Award nominee and Grammy Award winner Will Butler, formerly of Arcade Fire.
Crackling with “spliffs, tiffs and finely tuned performances” (The Telegraph), the play captures the chaos and creativity of the recording studio, where tensions rise and relationships unravel.
“Already the stuff of legend,” says WhatsOnStage, while the Financial Times praises it as a “superb, gorgeously textured drama.”
The cast includes Zachary Hart as Reg, Lucy Karczewski as Diana, Jack Riddiford as Peter, and Nia Towle as Holly.
They are joined by Andrew R. Butler, Eli Gelb, and Chris Stack, reprising their roles from the Broadway production as Charlie, Grover, and Simon respectively.
Understudies for the West End run include Sam Denia, Rima Georges, Lucy Gray, and Steve Shirley.
“This fine-grained audacious work” (The Standard) originally premiered at Playwrights Horizons before transferring to Broadway in April 2024, where it won five Tony Awards.
The creative team includes David Zinn (scenic design), Enver Chakartash (costume design), Jiyoun Chang (lighting design), Ryan Rumery (sound design), and Justin Craig (music direction and orchestrations with Will Butler).
UK casting is by Julia Horan CDG, with US casting by Alaine Alldaffer CSA, Lisa Donadio, and Taylor Williams CSA.
Stereophonic is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Linden Productions, Ashley Melone & Nick Mills, and Playwrights Horizons.
