Noël Coward’s Still Life, the play that inspired the iconic film Brief Encounter, is set to come to life in a new immersive West End production at Theatre Royal Drury Lane’s Grand Saloon Bar.
Presented by Bob and Co. and Wild Pursuit Theatre, the production will run for one week only, transforming the elegant Regency setting into the tearoom of Milford Junction railway station.
Audiences will be seated at tables with afternoon tea and champagne, as the story unfolds around them, accompanied by live music from the cast.
The play follows the chance meeting between suburban housewife Laura Jesson and idealistic doctor Alec Harvey, whose brief encounter develops into one of the most celebrated love stories in British drama.
Directed by Tam Williams, the production was originally staged in the Waterwheel Bar at The Mill at Sonning Theatre, where it was conceived as an intimate, immersive experience.
The cast includes Alasdair Craig as Alec Harvey and Rachel Pickup as Laura Jesson, alongside Elizabeth Elvin, Antony Jardine and Emily Panes.
This reimagined staging places the audience at the heart of the action, with the romance unfolding among diners in one of London’s most striking historic interiors.
Still Life will play from Monday 7 to Saturday 12 September, with two performances daily and a running time of 60 minutes.
