Bush Theatre has announced Sweetmeats, a new co-production with Tara Theatre, as part of its 2026 season.

The intimate love story between two South Asian elders is written by Karim Khan and directed by Tara Theatre’s Artistic Director Natasha Kathi-Chandra.

Running from 7 February to 21 March 2026 in the Holloway Theatre, Sweetmeats explores the unexpected romance between Hema and Liaquat, who meet at a Type 2 diabetes course.

Hema is determined to improve her health and has given up sweet treats. Liaquat, unapologetic and rule-breaking, encourages her to embrace life’s pleasures.

In turn, Hema helps Liaquat manage his health, and the pair begin to navigate a romance they thought they had outgrown.

Taio Lawson, Artistic Director of Bush Theatre, said, “It is an honour to oversee the rest of Lynette’s programming. It feels more important than ever that the Bush continues its proud tradition of finding, developing, and platforming writers and practitioners who strive to create resonant and affecting experiences for our audiences. I’m excited that we’re partnering with some fantastic companies and producers to introduce theatregoers to stories they will be thinking about, long after the performance ends.”
