British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) has announced the world premiere of The Glamification of Loki, the 2024 New Music Theatre Award-winning musical by Eden Tredwell.

This bold new production will run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant on 29 and 30 August, with four performances across the two days.

Blending Norse mythology with the dazzling world of modern beauty, The Glamification of Loki follows the God of Mischief on a quest to retrieve the Apples of Youth from an unexpected earthly location.

Packed with transformations, twists, and tongue-in-cheek humour, the show promises a mischievous and modern take on classic musical comedy.

Eden Tredwell, a London-based composer and lyricist, brings her signature style to the production. Her previous works include Galaxy Train, The Canterbury Tales, and The New Kid. She was also the winner of the Stiles + Drewe Best New Song Prize in 2021.

The creative team includes Director Grace Taylor (Six the Musical), Musical Director Lavie Rabinovitz (13: The Musical), Choreographer Steven Moore (Unbound, Urinetown), and Designer Cory Shipp (Son of a Bitch).

Eden Tredwell said: “I’m delighted to be premiering this show with BYMT at Southwark Playhouse. BYMT have been incredibly supportive throughout this process – we’ve assembled an incredible creative team, and can’t wait to let the young performers loose on the material. I’ve seen many brilliant shows at the Southwark Playhouse over the years, so to have my own show on there is definitely special.”

Eleni Chivers, a member of the BYMT Young Company Panel, added: “For me, The Glamification of Loki was a stand-out choice as the NMTA winner. We’ve never seen Norse mythology explored in a musical theatre setting before and this new and exciting theme is something that young performers such as myself can engage with. What makes this piece perfect for BYMT is its diversity, uniqueness and the brilliant merge of fantasy and reality. Its whimsical nature and comedic aspects combine in something that truly has that BYMT spark and I am excited to see the production at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.”

The Glamification of Loki is the latest in BYMT’s long-standing tradition of commissioning new musicals and nurturing young talent, with alumni including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and Grace Mouat.
