RADA and Trish Wadley Productions have announced that The Hamlet Project, directed by Sinéad Rushe, will launch the Academy’s new RADA Residencies programme with a week of preview performances this December.

Running 8–13 December 2025 at RADA’s GBS Theatre, The Hamlet Project is a bold reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic, performed by an ensemble of three actors in the title role and underscored by live music composed by Michael Fox (Michael & Michelle).

The production features Nina Bowers, Max Ferguson and Freddie MacBruce as Hamlet, alongside Gretchen Egolf as Gertrude, Emma Harrison as Ophelia/Rosencrantz, Gareth Kennerley as Polonius/Laertes, and Nathaniel Martello-White as Claudius.

Sinéad Rushe, who also serves as RADA’s Lead Acting Tutor, said:
“We’re exploring how a person’s psychology is made up of different parts or roles, in the theatrical sense of the term. People have public and private selves. The voices jostle, argue and occasionally concur with each other, and when a person is in crisis, like Hamlet, this inner dialogue becomes fragmented and cacophonous. In The Hamlet Project, we’re staging this inner conflict, literally turning the character inside out.”

The production follows Rushe’s acclaimed Othello at Riverside Studios and is intended as a companion piece. Her ambition is to eventually perform both plays in repertory.

The Hamlet Project will be accompanied by a series of wraparound events, including:

  • Reimagining Shakespeare: A conversation between Sinéad Rushe and RADA President David Harewood, chaired by Mark Lawson
  • Q&A with the companies of The Hamlet Project and Othello
  • Considering Character: An acting masterclass with Sinéad Rushe for RADA alumni

The creative team includes Michael Fox (composer and associate director), Mike Winship (sound designer), Joeley Gibson (movement director), Yael Shavit (dramaturg), and Riona Rushe Trindade (graphic designer).

This inaugural residency is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and aims to bring fresh professional insight to RADA students and audiences alike.
