Long running short plays event producer The Miniaturists are launching a brand new Miniaturists Podcast series on Thursday 16th November, showcasing short plays by the most exciting emerging and established playwrights.

In 2005, playwright Stephen Sharkey founded the Miniaturists, a regular night in which he and his playwright contemporaries could present small but perfectly formed complete 20 minute plays. A regular part of the new writing calendar, the company present live work several times a year at Arcola Theatre. Previous writers include Duncan Macmillan, Anna Jordan, Jon Brittain, Stephen Jeffreys, Glyn Maxwell, Moira Buffini, David Eldridge, Brad Birch, Charlene James, Joel Horwood, Owen McCafferty and Nick Payne.

12 years in and the landscape has changed, with technology making it possible to reach far wider audiences. Crowdfunded by 150 kind patrons and with recording hosted by Goldsmiths University, the Miniaturists launch the first season of their podcast in November 2017, featuring plays by Phoebe Eclair-Powell, Camilla Whitehill, Al Smith, Isley Lynn and Vinay Patel

Speaking about the new podcast, producer Will Bourdillon says ‘As we approach the Miniaturists’ twelfth birthday, we want to try something new. We’ve always been a place for writers to try out their craziest idea, to see if they can grab an audience and make them laugh, cry, fall in love, all in just twenty minutes. And along the way, we’ve been extremely lucky to work with some of the most fascinating writers around, both new and established. The Miniaturists Podcast lets us bring this process, that has proved so successful on stage, to a whole new medium, offering a whole new challenge to the writers we work with, and bringing the work of the Miniaturists to audiences all across the world’
