Mischief’s Olivier and Tony Award-winning smash-hit The Play That Goes Wrong has announced an extension at the Duchess Theatre in London’s West End, with performances now booking until Sunday 31 January 2027.
As Halloween approaches, a spooky new understudy with funny bones has been spotted in new production photos by Matt Crockett, specially released for the season.
A Relaxed Performance of The Play That Goes Wrong will take place on 8 March 2026 at the Duchess Theatre. This performance is adapted for people with autism, learning difficulties, and other communication needs.
Sound levels will be slightly reduced, and there will be fewer moments of darkness in the auditorium. Audience members are encouraged to move around, leave, and re-enter the performance as needed.
A pre-show touch tour, including a special effects demonstration and character introductions, will also be available. This can be booked via the Nimax Access Team at [email protected].
Coinciding with the announcement, Mischief has launched Learn With Mischief – a free educational resource for secondary schools. Available at www.learnwithmischief.com, the programme includes six lessons exploring the disciplines of comedy through practical games and exercises.
Each session covers key elements of Mischief’s approach, from physical comedy and improvisation to timing, ensemble play, and the art of things deliberately falling apart.
The current cast of The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre includes Izzy Edmunds-Clarke as Annie, Jack Hardwick as Chris, Robert Jackson as Robert, Jonty Peach as Jonathan, Charlotte Scott as Sandra, Mitesh Soni as Dennis, Tom Wainwright as Max, and Ronnie Yorke as Trevor. Winston the dog* returns to play Winston the dog (*if Winston is found).
Understudies are Alex Blackie, Jake Burgum, Kitty Devlin, Louise Hoare, and Ed Shamwana.
Since opening at the Duchess Theatre in September 2014, The Play That Goes Wrong has become the longest-running comedy in the West End. It originally premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre, playing to just four paying customers.
The show’s enduring success is a testament to the determination of a group of drama school graduates who formed Mischief and have since created a celebrated body of work.
