Omnibus Theatre will present The Sound of Absence from 24–28 February, an intimate new play written by Yanina Hope and directed by Ivanka Polchenko.
Described by Everything Theatre as “an ambitious fusion of live piano and theatrical storytelling that tackles grief with raw honesty” ★★★★★, the production combines theatre and original live piano music to explore father-daughter relationships and the impact of parental choices.
When Lenore learns her father is in Intensive Care, she rushes to his side only to arrive too late. His death becomes a catalyst for change, forcing her to confront their complicated history and rediscover herself through music and memory.
Yanina Hope said, “This play was born from a deep sense of helplessness a year after my father passed away. Maybe it was his death that unlocked something within me. I like to believe that in his passing, he reopened the door to my creative writing to comfort me. I thought a lot about what I wanted to say and the more I worked on the show, the more I wanted to explore father figures and what has made our parents who they are. I think it’s something everyone can relate to, audiences have told us this after watching the show. I hope it will inspire others to look at the relationships with their parents from a different perspective.”
The cast features Yanina Hope and Ukrainian composer Vladyslav Kuznetsov, whose live piano performance underscores the emotional journey. The creative team includes costume and set designer Shahaf Beer, movement director Anna Korzik, and lighting designer thegeorgeNET.
Running time is 70 minutes with no interval, and the show is suitable for ages 16+.
