The Space has launched its sixth and final One Festival, a unique programme of bite-size theatrical gems, all celebrating the art of the solo performance. Packed with unforgettable stories, bold new writing and world premieres from over forty of the most exciting theatre makers in the UK. Expect eclectic characters, feats of endurance and darkly comic tales of deception, loss and love; the perfect theatre treat to kick start the New Year.
The Space prides itself on its dedication to diversity on stage. That’s why 68% of One Festival shows are written by women and 25% feature BAME artists. Attracting diverse audiences, engaging our local community & nurturing emerging artists lies at the heart of what we do and we are thrilled to present The One Festival as part of our season of work championing socially relevant, inventive, accessible theatre.
The One Festival has long been a catalyst for the UK’s best emerging writers, directors and performers. Writers included in this year’s festival have graduated from programmes at Soho Theatre, The Royal Court and The Lyric Hammersmith, with Directors from the Young Vic Directors Programme and artists from theatre companies such as Idle Motion, Cheek By Jowl and Tamasha. Past shows that premiered at the One Festival include Sid by Leon Fleming, which secured two Off West End Award nominations and went on to run at the Above The Arts Theatre, Imogen Butler-Cole’s critically-acclaimed Foreign Body and Natasha Sutton-Williams’ Fringe hit Freud: The Musical.
The final One Festival runs from 9th – 27th January 2018, with 4 rotating programmes of work on offer. Click here for the full line up, dates and times and the News section for the lowdown on what to expect from each programme.
