The Stage Awards 2025 winners announced

Alistair Smith, editor at The Stage said: “The Stage Awards are the only major theatre awards that recognise the achievements of the whole of the British performing arts industry. Every year the judges look forward to reading submissions from companies across the UK – we are always impressed by the extraordinary work being undertaken by theatremakers at all scales and in all parts of the country.

“Last year’s winners ranged from the National Theatre’s screen version of Romeo and Juliet, to Company Three’s community youth project When This is Over, to a celebration of the amazing contribution of understudies and covers nationwide during the pandemic.

“As the sector builds back after a few difficult years, we look forward to championing even more great work taking place up and down the country and celebrating excellence in British theatre.”

Subscribers to The Stage are invited to make their own submissions for the awards, which will then be considered by The Stage’s judging panel. A series of industry experts will also be consulted, and judges will be able to submit their own suggestions, before a final decision is taken by The Stage Awards’ judging panel.

Any arts organisation that is a subscriber to The Stage can put itself, or another organisation, forward for consideration free of charge online here. Self-submission in all categories except Unsung Hero is encouraged. Submissions should be detailed entries that contain supporting evidence. The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 18 at 12pm.

Focusing on work since December 2021, judges will consider a variety of factors including artistic excellence, innovative business practices, outreach and community work and financial resilience.

The shortlist of nominees will be announced on December 15, with winners announced at an invite-only awards ceremony on January 30.

The Stage Awards launched in 2010 to recognise and celebrate excellence in British theatre. It has recognised 95 winners over the years, from national theatres and large-scale organisations to pub theatres and touring companies.

Former winners have included Sonia Friedman Productions, Battersea Arts Centre, Sheffield Theatres, ATG Productions, Theatr Clwyd and Nica Burns, as well as theatre technicians, casting directors and stage door keepers.
