Multi-platinum-selling artist Passenger has released the first single and music video from his new concept album based on the critically acclaimed musical The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.

The track, Song For The Countryside, is performed by Passenger and Jack Wolfe, and accompanies the moment Harold decides to embark on his life-changing journey.

Passenger said, “I never thought I would write a musical. But when I was asked, I read the book and immediately fell in love with it. I love the story and I resonate so deeply with the characters and the journeys they go on. I instantly knew that it was something that I had to be a part of. It’s been a real labour of love – not just for me, but all of the amazing people involved in the production.”

The musical, which had its world premiere at Chichester Festival Theatre this spring, will transfer to London’s West End in 2026. Dates and venue are yet to be announced.

The Chichester production starred Mark Addy as Harold, Jenna Russell as Maureen, and Jack Wolfe as The Balladeer. It received five-star reviews and sold out its entire run.

Directed by Katy Rudd, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is based on the best-selling novel by Rachel Joyce, who also wrote the book for the musical. Music and lyrics are by Passenger.

The story follows Harold Fry, a grey and lonely man who sets out to post a letter and ends up walking the length of England. Along the way, he confronts his past and meets a host of fellow travellers, while his wife Maureen embarks on a journey of her own.

The West End transfer will be presented by Chris Harper Productions and Nick Sidi.
