The musical tick, tick… BOOM! by American composer Jonathan Larson, who won a Pulitzer and three Tony Awards for his later musical Rent, is to get a new London production.
tick, tick… BOOM! directed by Guy Retallack, will run at The Bridge House Theatre SE20 from Monday 30 September – Sunday 27 October.
tick, tick… BOOM! is an autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the story of the composer on the brink of turning 30, his fear of falling into oblivion, and the sacrifices he made to achieve his big break in the theatre.
Jon’s girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue and yet Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the ‘Great musical Blockbuster’. Set in 1990, tick, tick… BOOM! is a compelling, endearing and
personal story of discovery that embraces the universal ideal of holding onto your dreams through life’s most difficult challenges.
tick, tick… BOOM! is it the first musical produced by The Bridge House Theatre SE20 outside of their respected Christmas season. It will be directed by the venue’s Artistic Director Guy Retallack and produced by resident Artistic Producer, Rob Harris.
Harris says: “With the constant pressures that life puts on us to achieve and reach our goals tick, tick… BOOM! seems more relevant today than ever. Sadly, Larson’s sudden death left us with only two fully realised shows and we will make sure our production is a great tribute to his legacy. We also feel extremely privileged to have been granted the rights to this wonderful piece as it may be the last professional London production before the widely anticipated film version of the show goes into production for Netflix – directed by Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton)”
