Chichester Festival Theatre has announced the full cast for its dazzling new production of Top Hat, directed and choreographed by the acclaimed Kathleen Marshall.
Running from 14 July to 6 September, with a press night on 24 July, this brand-new staging of Irving Berlin’s classic musical promises to be a summer highlight.
Based on the iconic 1935 film starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat was a West End sensation, winning the 2013 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and the Evening Standard Award for Best Night Out.
Broadway star Phillip Attmore makes his UK debut as Jerry Travers. A Fred and Adele Astaire Award winner, Attmore’s credits include Shuffle Along, Hello, Dolly!, and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.
Lucy St. Louis stars as Dale Tremont. Known for her groundbreaking role as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, she has also appeared in Wicked, Motown: The Musical, and Camelot in Concert.
Three-time Olivier nominee Clive Carter plays Horace. His West End credits include Moulin Rouge, Come From Away, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Sally Ann Triplett returns to Chichester as Madge. Her celebrated roles include Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, and Aunt Eller in Oklahoma!.
The cast also features James Clyde as Bates and Alex Gibson-Giorgio as Beddini, alongside a vibrant ensemble of performers.
Justin Audibert, Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre, said:
“We are dancing with delight that Kathleen Marshall has assembled such a fantastic cast for what promises to be a glorious summer highlight in Chichester. In Phillip Attmore, Lucy St. Louis, Clive Carter and Sally Ann Triplett, we have two of the brightest rising stars paired with two of the most distinguished and seasoned performers in musical theatre, on both sides of the Atlantic, with a wonderful supporting company. We can’t wait to welcome them all.”
Top Hat is a romantic comedy filled with mistaken identities, glamorous gowns, and toe-tapping numbers. Irving Berlin’s timeless score includes “Cheek to Cheek,” “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”
Kathleen Marshall, a three-time Tony Award winner, brings her Broadway brilliance to Chichester. Her recent revival of Anything Goes earned nine Olivier nominations and won her Best Choreographer.
The creative team includes Peter McKintosh (set and costume design), Gareth Valentine (musical supervision), Stephen Ridley (musical direction), and Chris Walker (orchestration and arrangements).
Following its Chichester run, Top Hat will embark on a UK tour, produced by Kenny Wax Productions and Jonathan Church Theatre Productions.
The production includes a Dementia Friendly performance on 31 July and a Relaxed Performance on 26 August. A Summer Gala on 29 August will support Chichester Festival Youth Theatre.
